The IMN claimed three of its members had been killed while others had been wounded in the process. 9 Aliyu Umar, one of the IMN leaders, said they were attacked by police while they observed their religious right to mourn Ashura. He says: “What happened to us this morning was not a clash, but an attack on IMN’s unarmed members. We observed an event called Ashura mourning as a procession in the Islamic calendar. “We were watching this procession on our way. We did it peacefully as we did before when we were attacked by police, shooting live bullets at us where three people were killed and so many others were wounded.
I’m still going to confirm the number of wounded people, “Umar said. When contacted by the Public Relations Officer of the Kaduna State Police Command, DSP Yakubu Sabo said the allegation of killing is false and mischievous, saying: “The police relied on intelligence reports and moved quickly to the scene to disperse the IMN members ‘ gathering. He said the protesters had been professionally dispersed, and no one had been killed.
