Supreme Court Sacks APC Senator, David Umaru Today June 14th, 2019.
In the last polls of the National Assembly, the Supreme Court declared Mohammed Sani Musa winner of the Niger East senatorial election.
However, the tribunal put aside the Court of Appeal’s judgement of April 8, 2019, Abuja, which declared Senator David Umaru the All Progressive Congress, APC’s valid candidate.
Why and How APC Senator, David Umaru Was Sacked
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, proclaimed Umaru, a former Chairman of the Senate Committee on Justice, Human Rights and Legal Matters, winner of the senatorial district election.
However, in a unanimous judgement on Friday, the Supreme Court’s five-man panel headed by Justice Ibrahim Muhammed upheld Musa’s legal team’s statements, led by Chief Wole Olanipekun, SAN that Musa won the APC’s primary for the election and was the party’s real candidate.
The apex court permitted Musa’s appeal to: SC/405/2019 and confirmed the Federal High Court’s decision of 7 February 2019 by Justice Folashade Giwa-Ogunbanjo, Abuja, stating that Musa was the governing party’s validly nominated candidate for the Niger-East senatorial district election.
